• We don't sell your data, and there is no advertising in Bookmark.
• We don't use third-party advertising or tracking tools, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
• Location is used only to show events near you, and only while you're using the app.
• You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from inside the app.
What we collect
This policy covers the Bookmark iPhone app and the website bookmarkevents.app. Both use the same accounts.
• Account. Your email address and password, used to sign you in. Passwords are stored in hashed form by our sign-in provider; we never see them. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us your name and an email address, which can be a private relay address that forwards to you; you choose what to share. A display name, if you choose to set one.
• Location. Your device location, only if you allow it and only while the app is open, to find events near you and show distances. We don't track your location in the background or keep a history of where you've been. If you set a home city, we store the city and its approximate coordinates. Your latest location choice is also kept on your device.
• What you save. The authors, venues and festivals you follow, the events you bookmark or mark as going, and your search radius.
• Notifications. If you turn on notifications, we store your device's push token and your notification choices, so we can send reminders and news about authors and venues you follow. We keep a record of what we sent so we don't send it twice. You can turn notifications off in Profile or in iPhone Settings.
• Emails. If you sign up for emails on the website, we use your email address to send them and store your email choices. Every email has a link to change them or stop them.
• Claiming a page and posting events. If you claim a venue or author page, we collect what you enter in the claim form: your name, role, phone number, the venue's address and website, and any note. If you post events, we store the events and who posted them. Events you post are shown publicly.
• Reports. If you report a listing, we store the report, your reason and your account, so we can follow up.
• Usage analytics. We record basic actions so we can see which parts of Bookmark are useful, for example that an event page was opened, a bookmark was added or a page was shared. Each record holds the action, the time, a random identifier created when the app is installed (or stored in your browser on the website), the platform and app version, and your account identifier if you're signed in. We don't record what you type into search, only how many characters and how many results.
Your calendar
When you tap Add to calendar, Bookmark asks for permission to add events to your calendar, and adds only the events you choose. It doesn't read your other calendar events. On the website, Add to calendar downloads a calendar file instead.
What we don't collect
Bookmark doesn't access your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or health data, and doesn't use advertising identifiers.
Event information
Event, author and venue listings come from information published by publishers, bookstores, libraries, festivals and event organisers, or posted on Bookmark by the venue or author. Each listing credits its source and links back to it.
Who processes data for us
• Supabase hosts our database and handles sign-in. Your account, saved items, notification choices and analytics records are stored there.
• OpenCage turns a place name you type into approximate coordinates, and coordinates into a nearby city name. It receives only the text or coordinates for that lookup.
• Expo and Apple build and deliver the app, deliver push notifications and, if you use it, handle Sign in with Apple. Apple may give us crash reports and basic install information.
• Cloudflare hosts the website and forwards email sent to our contact address.
• Resend sends our emails, if you sign up for them.
These providers act on our behalf. We don't sell personal information to anyone, and we don't share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Account information and everything attached to it is kept until you delete your account. Analytics records are kept so we can understand usage over time; when you delete your account they are unlinked from you and stay only as anonymous records. Events posted to a page stay in the public archive after they happen.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Profile and choose Delete my account. This removes your profile, follows, saved events and notification settings, unlinks your analytics records and, if you used Sign in with Apple, disconnects Bookmark from your Apple ID. It can't be undone. You can also email us and we'll do it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Most of this is available in the app; for anything else, contact us and we'll respond.
If you're in California: we don't sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, and we don't offer financial incentives for it.
Children
Bookmark isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and is stored with access controls that limit each account to its own information. No service can promise perfect security, so we collect only what Bookmark needs.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
